goMARTI Song Competition White Paper
Introducing new technology can be challenging. To make the launch approachable, the goMARTI team launched an innovative community engagement program - a competition to create a goMARTI song. The competition received numerous submissions, helping create some initial excitement for the service. The winning submission was from a local musician, also the city’s own Driver’s Ed instructor, Jim Cagle, who created a theme song which was then professionally produced and made available on all streaming platforms. The song helps make the goMARTI fun and memorable. This paper explores how music helped reduce uncertainty, build excitement, and strengthen the community connection to the project.

goMARTI Student Fixtures White Paper
As part of a project-based learning opportunity, local high school students in Grand Rapids were “hired” to design and build infrastructure route fixtures for the shuttles. These fixtures became a part of the pre-mapped route and are researched how they can help provide enhanced localization for the vehicles. The Student Fixtures project gave students hands-on experience with understanding how self-driving technology can work. This paper highlights the project’s educational outcomes and technical contributions.
